Dating historic photos of Unity Church is difficult, but certain benchmarks can determine the age range of the photo.  When the church was first dedicated, there was little vegetation around the building.  Quite quickly, ivy vines consumed much of the outside.  The first major change to the structure was the construction of the Wisdom Window in 1901.  The pre-Wisdom window was a three panel window of St. Michael.  This window was taller, but not wider, than the Wisdom Window.

The second structural change was the change in the Rose Window in 1925.  The first Rose Window had two vertical supports in the center circle; the second Rose Window (Connick Window) has one horizontal support in the center circle.

The Wisdom Window has had two outward changes since it's inception.  The first one is not dated, but includes the addition of a wire mesh screen to protect the window.  This can be most easily seen at the top of the window, with the loss of one of the horizontal supports.  The second change was in the mid-1990's when the Wisdom Window was restored.  A thick-framed glass exterior protective window was added.

Pre-Wisdom Window pictures (1875 to 1901)

Picture of Unity Church taken at the time of the dedication, August 26, 1875.  This photo shows the original window where the Wisdom Window is now situated.  The original window, St. Michael, was donated to the Catholic Church on Main St.
